Jade (Crassula ovata) in 6" pot
Also known as the Lucky Plant, this compact plant offers plump, flattened-egg shaped leaves growing on a woody stem. This succulent is resilient and capable of a long-life. Some plants may be passed down from generation to generation.
Difficulty: Intermediate
Light: Bright, indirect light. Loves a south facing window. Doesn't do well in low light.
Care: Allow to dry fully between watering. Do not overwater. If left in moist conditions jade is very susceptible to root rot. They are also susceptible to cold damage, so keep away from drafts and doors in winter. Will need more watering in Spring/Summer, and less in Fall/Winter. Mature plants may only need watering 1-2x during all of Winter/Fall. Shriveled, falling, or brown leaves indicates it needs more water, while squishy leaves indicates it is waterlogged.
Size: Slow growing. Mature plants could reach 3' in height.
Toxicity: Toxic to pets and children. Keep out of reach of pets or children. Can cause oral irritation, pain and swelling of mouth, tongue and lips, excessive drooling, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing if ingested.
