Green Rubber Plant (Ficus elastica) in 10" pot
A very forgiving plant with thick, oval-shaped rubbery leaves on tall stems. Can be pruned to a degree to prevent it from getting too large. Great plant for cleaning the air in a space and improving humidity. Very good pest resistance.
Difficulty: Beginner
Light: Indirect sun, some shade is ok. Avoid keeping it in direct bright sunlight, or very shady areas.
Care: Water approximately every 1-2 weeks, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between watering. Don't overwater. Too much water can cause root rot.
Size: Mature plants can reach heights of 5-6ft tall. Can be pruned to promote wider growth, otherwise they tend to grow up rather than out.
Toxicity: The milky sap can be a skin irritant for people and pets if the leaves or stem is cut or scratched. It can also drip, leaving a mess. Swallowing sap or contact with eyes/mouth should be avoided. Wash hands if you come in contact with the sap.
